Job OverviewUnder direction of the Project Manager and/or the locksmith installs, repairs, and modifies locking mechanisms for doors, desks, safes, and more. They examine and replace worn parts, open locks using various methods, make keys, change combinations, and establish keying systems for buildings.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties & Job Functions:
- Installs, repairs, modifies and opens a variety of locking mechanism found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults.
- Examines locking mechanism and installs new unit or disassembles unit and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts, or repairs them by filing, drilling, chiseling and grinding.
- Opens door locks by moving lock-pick in cylinder or opens safe locks by listening to lock sounds or by drilling.
- Makes new or duplicate keys, using key cutting machine.
- Changes combination by inserting new or repaired tumblers into lock.
- Establishes keying system for buildings.
Mandatory:
- High school graduate or equivalent GED.
- Experience must be journeyman level.
- General knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Familiarity with applicable environmental codes and standards.
- Familiarity with basic mathematical functions is required.
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Mature judgment and the ability to perform assigned work tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screen.
- U.S. Citizen
- Maintains the required intelligence community level clearance.
- Valid state driver's license.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and team lift 75 pounds.
